Chief of Staff

Mr. Hanna serves as Chief of Staff for the National Insurance Crime Bureau.  In this role, he works closely with NICB leadership along with internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement programmatic strategies for the organization’s highest priorities and transformative efforts.

Prior to joining NICB, Mr. Hanna served as Assistant Director of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers, National Capital Region. As the Assistant Director, Mr. Hanna was responsible for providing executive leadership and management of the FLETC Washington DC operations and Directorate Headquarters, the Cheltenham Training Delivery Point, located at Cheltenham, MD, and FLETC’s International Training Operations. Prior to his current position, Mr. Hanna was the Chief of Staff for the DHS Office of Intelligence and Analysis located in Washington D.C. As the Chief of Staff, he was responsible for implementing the Under-Secretary’s vision for the DHS Office of Intelligence and Analysis as a member of the Intelligence Community to keep the homeland safe and secure.

Mr. Hanna served 22 years as a career federal law enforcement agent with the United States Border Patrol at U.S. Customs and Border Protection. During his tenure at U.S. Customs and Border Protection, he served on both the Southern and Northern borders of the United States and at Headquarters in Washington D.C.

Mr. Hanna held a variety of leadership positions within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, including the Director of the Commissioner’s Situation Room; Associate Chief Border Patrol Agent; Chief of Staff for CBP Office of Intelligence; Acting Deputy Assistant Commissioner, Office of Congressional Affairs; and Deputy Director, Field Intelligence Division. Mr. Hanna also represented DHS as a Fellow to the United States Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee for three years, where he co-authored the Families of Fallen Heroes Act, which provided needed benefits to families of federal law enforcement officers whose loved ones died in the line of duty. In 2017, Mr. Hanna served as the Senior Law Enforcement Advisor to the White House from U.S. Customs and Border Protection to the United States Council on Transnational Organized Crime, leading the implementation of the lines of effort to combat transnational organized crime, as outlined in Presidential Executive Order 13773. Mr. Hanna is married and resides in Northern Virginia with his wife Amanda and three children, Ryan, Ainsley and Christian.
