NICB Releases Imagery for Southern California Wildfires

Responding to wildfires burning in Southern California, the National Insurance Crime Bureau’s (NICB) Geospatial Intelligence Center (GIC) is conducting flight operations over the affected areas and is making the imagery available to the public. By going to the link below and typing in an address, a before-and-after comparison is available if the property is in an affected area that has been surveyed from the air.

  1. Go to http://arcg.is/2xeAVK6.
  2. Type “Ventura, CA” into the search box on the upper right of the screen.

Note that conditions were poor due to the heavy smoke and ash, and we will be refining and editing the images over the coming days as well as conducting additional flights as the smoke clears.

The NICB’s GIC has previously mapped the areas hardest hit by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria as well as the Northern California wildfires.

The unprecedented high-resolution imagery and mapping is made possible through NICB’s GIC in partnership with Vexcel Imaging, the premier aerial imaging company worldwide, and Esri, the global provider of GIS mapping and spatial analytics software. The GIC will, as part of its core mission, assist first responders and law enforcement agencies by providing them at no cost high-resolution imagery that will provide actionable insight into the situation on the ground.
